"Nigel Kennedy may grab the column inches when he plays at Ronnie Scott’s, but there is no question that John Dankworth’s protégé Chris Garrick is our finest jazz violinist. Much of his energy, of late, has been devoted to a raucous fusion band, but here he returns to one of his earliest inspirations. If the format isn’t as distinctive as his work with John Etheridge’s graceful, Grappelli-influenced band, Sweet Chorus, the rhythm section of John Horler, Alec Dankworth and Allan Ganley hit cruising speed with the minimum of exertion on Exactly Like You and Crazy Rhythm. Garrick’s soloing is full of joie de vivre. The grand old man would have been impressed."
